One thing France does very well is antiques. If you know where to look you can get some amazing bits and pieces to kit out your very own château (or fantasise about kitting out your imaginary château).
My new favourite riffling ground is Jas des Roberts, on the outskirts of Grimaud, a cross between a flea market, a car boot sale and an outdoor museum of vintage French pop culture.
Every Sunday morning the Jas des Roberts site is laden with everything from 70s cabinets, to 50s Dior sunglasses, original abstract art and even vintage motor bikes.
The prices seem reasonable, with bargains available for as little as 1 euro, although I’m sure some serious money changes hands for high-end items.
For those of you who know Jim, you’ll appreciate that he was like a kid in a sweet shop. We’ve yet to make our first purchase as we were too wide-eyed to select a single item but I’m sure something from this treasure trove will soon find its way into our home….
